A New Commandment - CD

A New Commandment features a variety of arrangements reverently written to reflect the meaning of the Scriptures. Psalm 1 is in the style of Handel, with majestic trumpets and timpani. "Hear O Israel" uses the solemn cry of the Jewish shofar. African thumb pianos and a children's choir are featured in "I am the way the truth and the life."


This rich collection of 19 Scripture songs includes "Books of the New Testament, " making this memorization challenge easy. Instrumental-only tracks are included for memory practice and performance. Recommended for ages 6 and up. NKJV, KJV.


About the Sing The Word Series:

Most Christian children's music seems trivial at best and all too frequently become unbiblical in an effort at simplicity. The music can range from tedious to obnoxious, and even if the humor was funny once, it quickly becomes exasperating as it is repeated over and over during the day. 


Thankfully, the Sing The Word Series is very different. Sung by and for children, the words you'll hear are taken directly from the scriptures. The music itself encompasses various musical styles and is neither tedious nor grating.


After listening, we were surprised to find ourselves singing the verses around the house, complete with the correct references. For a family with chronic poor memory, this was notable! 


Perhaps this was because the words are repeated several times in each song. Or maybe it is because the children's voices are so pleasing to listen to, and the tunes are catchy and easy to sing. 


Sing The Word Series is Produced by a musically enterprising couple and their clutch of young children. The Harrows found that their musical sophistication grew with their children. So expect more complex scriptural content and great musical variety (a Baroque string orchestra, a rhythmically intense Salsa band, an Irish jig...) throughout the series. 


The Bible versions vary too, including NIV, KJV, NKJV, RSV, and NAS.

    Great quality

    Based on Joy's review, I decided to give a couple of the "Sing to Word" CDs a try,as we were looking for Scripture memory songs for our youngest. When the CDs arrived and I read that both parents are professional musicians with masters degrees from Eastman school of Music, my expectations went way up. When I further read that Ann Harrow (the mom of this amazing family) is, like myself, a professional flutist and flute instructor, my interest further increased. I was not at all disappointed! This is real music, played on real instruments, by real (very talented) musicians! The kids' vocals were very clear and beautiful, but it was the instrumental arrangements that sold me on this one. I was also very pleased to hear that the music matches the texts: not twaddly or irreverent. A very well produced and edifying project.

    Kids Music Mom Likes, Too!

    Sing the Word has changed my attitude while driving. This is not that cutesy, make-it-stop kind of kids' music. Extremely well done and pleasant to listen to, we all know the verses now! This one--A New Commandment--is recommended for ages 6+, but my younger kids loved it, too, and my 4-year-old has no problem singing along. A fun and easy way to hide the Word in little hearts! Definitely worth the price--since I can listen to it over and over and not get annoyed by the music or voices, it's actually priceless:).
