ColorKu

Sudoku, the numbers game, has received a makeover. Introducing ColorKu, where colors rather than traditional numbers make Sudoku skills accessible to novices or students intimidated by numbers. ColorKu will improve memory and logic and require the player to think strategically and solve problems creatively.

The gorgeous playing board is solid wood and has eighty-one wooden marbles in nine intense colors. The dimpled-plastic tray pulls double duty as both a cover when ColorKu is not used and as a ball holder while playing ColorKu.

You start by placing the colored marbles on the card onto your board then you have to fill in the rest. Use your logic to play by getting one of each marble color in each of nine rows, columns, and 3 x 3 squares without overlapping with the same color. Each puzzle has only one correct solution.

Over 100 puzzle cards are included, with difficulty ratings from easy to challenging. Thankfully, the answer to each puzzle is also provided. And because you can readily convert any Sudoku puzzle into a ColorKu puzzle with the addition of the color conversion card, your child will never run out of challenges.

ColorKu is such a visually beautiful game that you may leave the board out for a spontaneous game. We have found that it is perfect as an impromptu diversion for restless visitors whose parents are preoccupied. We fill the board and remove an appropriate number of wooden marbles depending on the child's cognitive ability to handle challenges. Then we let him figure out where the missing pieces belong.

The gameboard-crafted of solid wood-includes 81 balls in 9 different colors, 104 puzzle cards, solutions booklet, color conversion card and storage tray. There are 5 levels of difficulty. Place it on the coffee table and you're ready whenever you feel like a challenge.

4 year old loves it!

I'm using it to help my 4 year old learn patterns by making rows of colors, and we played a modified game together using only part of the board. She quickly caught on to the concept of Colorku, and enjoyed problem solving! It is a good game for her now as modified, and a great game to grow into!

Beautiful, well made, and challenging!

We absolutely love ColorKu. It is beautiful and colorful. Very sturdy and well-made. Aside from being a fun and challenging game, it is also lovely to exist as decor as well, similar to a chess set one might leave out. Our daughter loves colors and so this is a lot more engaging for her whimsical soul than just numbers in a box, though I can certainly appreciate that not all children will find the same appeal.

An engaging break from the books!

Sometimes my children need a mental break from reading and writing. While I try to honor their needs, there are times I also need them to stay dialed into academics so we can finish a lesson without dragging. This has been an excellent solution and tradition for us. The children return from a ColorKu recess rested, yet still alert and refreshed.

The quality of ColorKu is exceptional. Even setting up the game is a special, almost ceremonial experience. The colorful pieces could be easily lost, so it's not a game to keep in a toy bin. And I agree with another reviewer -- it might be best not to divide the sheets into cards for ideal storage.

We only bring ColorKu to separate homeschooling lessons. When my children see me reach for this game, they smile and cheer!
