I've written previously that the crayon rocks were some of the best crayons ever, even better than Crayola. And don't get me wrong, the rocks are still great. But there is great, and then there is perfection. AKA, Silky Crayons.
Oh my gosh me and my son LOVE these crayons. The colors are rich and vibrant and the texture of the crayon is like no art utensil I've ever used before. It feels like coloring with butter and velvet. Just the lightest touch and luxurious color blooms on the page. Even the infamous white crayon is visible and leaves the page whiter than it started.
The crayons also work similar to lipstick tubes in that once they start getting worn down to a nub you just twist the bottom and more pops up.
I never thought I'd be addicted to a *crayon* but here we are. All my son wants to do now that he's opened the box is color, whereas before it would merely distract him for a handful of minutes, he can now sit down for a solid half an hour just coloring with the silkies.
Once your scholar has mastered the crayon rocks (which are still great and should definitely have a space in your art supply drawer) this is a fantastic step up to the next thing. I will never be able to go back to any other crayon brand. Silky crayons now have a permanent place in my house.
One word of warning: The crayons are washable certainly but they are also very messy. Your preschooler is going to be a casuality of color. That's just a fact. Even wearing a painting smock, you WILL find color on them. Also, it's VERY difficult to get the crayon out of carpet. So maybe don't do your art projects near your ornamental rugs using these unless you want to give them a makeover that looks like it was done by a drunk unicorn.
My 2 year old absolutely loves these crayons! They write so smoothly and are so vibrant. We’ve tried many crayons, and these are by far our favorite!
