Famous Figures of Ancient Times

If you have multiple children, you no doubt have noticed the unique inclinations of each one. Our middle child lived for art. Her most prized possessions were a tape dispenser, scissors, and endless amounts of paper. Famous Figures of Ancient Times was made for such a child.

While you read historical accounts aloud, your avid artist can color the detailed figures of twenty people who shaped history, such as Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Hannibal, his elephant, and others. Colorful characters are printed on heavy cardstock with perforated pages for trouble-free removal. Cut out the pieces, punch holes where directed, and attach standard fasteners to allow their arms and legs to move and their swords and shields to flash. Matching pre-colored action figures are also included for the meticulous child who wants to color it exactly right.

"Great for kids who like crafts: Detailed, colored figures from history, from Narmer to Augustine, to cut out and assemble. The figures are on cardstock with moveable joints. Good for decorating timelines or just for fun."
— Susan Wise Bauer and Jessie Wise, authors of The Story of the World

    History Comes Alive

These were a fun addition to our history studies. Necessary, no. But definitely helped the kids to engage in the history they were listening to in order to understand the story of the person they were making. Each book has a figure that is colored and one that is not for each person represented - my two children alternated who did the coloring and who did not on different characters; sometimes they wanted the professionally colored one and sometimes they wanted to color so this worked out perfectly!

    A Favorite History Resource

This is one of my daughter's favorite parts of history. She gets excited every time she sees one on our checklist for the day. At this point, she's worked through the entire set of the Ancients. The Middle Ages & Renaissance set arrived today I'm pretty sure she's already run off already.

My biggest complaint is that there aren't characters to go with each of the ancient cultures we studied.

    High quality, beautifully made

These are a big hit whenever I have the patience to bring them out! They are sturdy as well as attractive, and I love that there are colored and uncolored options. My advice is to have a large supply of small brads on stand-by, as we always seemed to be out of them when I wanted to pull these out!
My students only complaint was that they wished there were MORE characters-e especially girls! It would be nice if they had some "non-famous" characters to fill in the gaps when history lacks figure of note. (For instance, women almost always, and the civilizations of the Indus River and the Americas)

    great but not used

We got this for volume 1 and the other versions for volume 2 and we haven't used them yet for history. After we finished volume 1, the kiddos found the books and just started to randomly make them without the lesson. They enjoyed it.
