Super Illusions Thinking Putty
Unlike any Thinking Putty we've carried so far, Super Illusions is Thinking Putty with super-hero powers! With colors that shift and morph before your eyes based on the angle of light, Super Illusions colors virtually explode out in the sunlight. Plus, this super-shiny version of Thinking Putty has a memory effect so it will tend to untwist itself or pull back when stretched.

Work Your Hands - Work Your Brain
When one of our children was a preschooler, we received the best advice a parent of a kinesthetic child could receive: Let her wiggle. And wiggle she did. I don't think she sat for schoolwork for many years. But sometimes pirouettes and somersaults can be a distraction to other children, especially if you are dealing with a mixed bag of modalities. The visual students in particular, will go bonkers trying to be attentive in the presence of a human pogo stick. However, the kinesthetic child can't be attentive without movement. A workable compromise is a handheld fidget of some sort. Over the years, we have investigated a number of fidgets; some were silly, some were creepy, and most were flimsy. I broke three in one week, and I'm not even kinesthetic! When a shipment of Thinking Putty arrived, I was eager to see how it fared. The results were outstanding!

Bounce, Stretch, Tear, Drip, Snap, Even Shatter Thinking Putty
Thinking Putty is Silly Putty but enhanced with knock-your-socks-off colors that shift or morph completely as you squeeze. All versions of the non-toxic, non-gooey Thinking Putty will bounce, stretch, tear, drip, snap, and even shatter. Silicone-based, they will never dry out.

Stress-Relieving, Hand-Exercising Thinking Putty
Thinking Putty is an impressive adult-sized handful of high-quality moldable putty. Not just for wiggly children, Thinking Putty is also a stress-relieving, soothing slab of super-smooth elastic putty for tense office workers and impatient computer geeks. It also can be used as a hand exercise for guitar players or therapy for arthritic hands. Each tin arrives with one-fifth of a pound of Thinking Putty and a label that says Crazy Aaron's Thinking Putty. They offered to put our names on the label instead, at nearly twice the price, but we decided that we would let Aaron be the crazy one! We offer many mesmerizing versions of thinking putty. Each tin contains enough putty for a couple of children to use at the same time.

From the Manufacturer:
Oil SlickEveryone knows that oil and water do not mix. Yet when they do, what is known as an oil slick appears. An oil slick creates a colorful layer of oil that floats on the surface of water. This layer is highly reflective due to the light wave interference between oil, air, and water. This undulating refractive index makes for shifting colors that move and change with light. You will see the same effect in Super Oil Slick—an extremely popular Thinking Putty® color that is downright mesmerizing.

What is Thinking Putty? Where did it come from?

Thinking Putty and many other silicone rubber products were developed during World War II as American industries searched for rubber substitutes that could be used in place of natural rubber tires, gaskets, and seals. During World War II, America's supply of natural rubber was scarce. The Japanese had occupied many areas in the South Pacific where rubber trees are found.

In 1936, at the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research, Dr. Earl Warrick began experimenting with "organosilicon" chemistry--combining silicon (think: sand, glass, computer chips) with carbon (think: you and me, charcoal, and fossil fuels).

In 1943, he left the institute to join the newly formed Dow Corning Corporation. His research was refocused to help the war effort by developing a synthetic rubber substitute. Although he failed to produce a suitable rubber before the end of the war, one result of his experiments was a Silicone Bouncing Putty (the primary ingredient in Thinking Putty).

Although it had no industrial use, he kept some around--it made a nifty toy!

Is Thinking Putty like Gak?, Floam?, Noise Putty?, Slime?, Mars Mud?, or Goo??

Absolutely not! Thinking Putty is in a class of its own--with its own unique physical properties. Thinking Putty is more similar to Silly Putty? than other "putty" products. Thinking Putty does not leave a sticky residue on your hands. You won't feel like you need to "wash up" after playing with it. Thinking Putty stretches like rubber, bounces like a ball, tears like paper, and can shatter like ceramic. Thinking Putty can also shift color. Unlike all other products, Thinking Putty comes in adult-sized handfuls and a rainbow of really awesome colors.

    Is Thinking Putty non-toxic?

Thinking Putty is inert, non-toxic, and safe. Thinking Putty contains no latex or wheat compounds. It is safe for use by people with sensitivity to wheat or latex and will not promote the development of latex allergies. They even use Nitrile latex-free gloves during manufacture. Thinking Putty is a Made in the USA product. It is manufactured entirely in the USA from top shelf materials sourced from industry leading vendors. They take product purity and regulatory compliance very seriously. They are certified compliant with EU standards EN 71 Parts 1, 2 & 3 which cover tests for toy safety. Additional information is happily provided upon request. Although Thinking Putty is completely inert, non-toxic, and safe, it may present a choking hazard to children if placed in the mouth or if a child attempts to swallow the product, so please exercise extra caution around small children, especially children under three years of age.

    Does Thinking Putty dry out?

No way! Thinking Putty is silicone based, not clay or earth based like other modeling compounds. Thinking Putty will never dry out or crumble. The only reason to keep it in a closed container is to offer protection from dirt, dust, and hair that may otherwise accumulate.

Should I take my Thinking Putty to the office?

Absolutely! Bring your Thinking Putty to work with you and leave it on your desk. You'll find yourself tearing off a handful and using it to relieve stress when you deal with difficult personnel or vendors. If yours is a creative job, Thinking Putty will give your hands something to do while your brain ponders infinite innovative possibilities.

Can I bring Thinking Putty through airport security or onto an airplane?

Yes. Thinking Putty may appear superficially like the plastic explosives you see on TV, but the similarities end there. Thinking Putty will not appear as an explosive to either color X-ray or sniffer machines. It is neither a liquid nor a gel and is not subject to the criteria governing those objects. That said, security screeners have absolute personal discretion in exercising their jobs. They can confiscate anything they like regardless of the posted rules.

Note About Clean-Up
Thinking Putty can stick to fabric, hair, and carpet, so keep an eye on where your little guy puts it! For tidier options for your wiggler and fidgeter, we suggest Mad Mattr or Clixo Create, which we feature in our Preschool through 2nd Grade Kits. However, if you do find yourself in a predicament, you can try these tips from the manufacturer:

Did you accidentally sit on your Thinking Putty or find a wad of it in your child's hair? Thankfully, there are some time-tested techniques for removing Thinking Putty from hair, clothing, and other fabrics.

First, remove as much of the putty as possible from the surface. You don't have to go crazy scraping away, but you don't want a thick blob attached to the clothes, either. Putty sticks to putty very well! Use a small lump that you've scraped off to pick the remaining putty away.

Using 70% (or greater) Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol, position the fabric over the sink and liberally pour some rubbing alcohol over the stain. Using a paper towel or washcloth, rub the alcohol into the putty. Immediately, you should notice the Thinking Putty liquifying and moving away from the fabric. As you mix in the rubbing alcohol, you can probably pull away chunks of putty that have become freed from the fabric.

After the putty is removed, you may still have a minor stain on the fabric. A quick run through the washing machine often clears this up. Use a liquid detergent pre-treatment, and, for most fabrics, the stain should wash away.

Didn't work? Consult an expert! Drop off the clothes at the local dry cleaner and let them know the stain is "silicone-based."

Hours of fun!

My daughter loves Crazy Aaron’s Super Oil Slick thinking putty! It is a great tool to have on hand for the times when sitting still is a bit harder for her. She is able to play with the putty while still being engaged with whatever learning we are doing. When she first opened it she marveled at the shininess of it. She also loves having play time with it, making “ice cream” by putting it on a cone, or putting characters in it who are “stuck in the mud!” I can’t wait to get her some of the other types of Crazy Aaron’s putty!

Fun for fidgety kids

We now have 2 different putty’s for our 6 & 4 year old to be entertained with. We bought a set you build your own putty as well and that was fun. This particular one is really cool looking and the favorite.
